a photographic cookbook on iPad!? lushly photographed food and ingredients to make up 60 recipes step-by-step from across the spectrum (meat, fish, vegetarian and dessert). loads of extra photos for the small detailed bits. their use of styled food photos, typography and a visual presentation sense better than most food related apps i have seen makes this a winner. the recipes they selected are tempting!

another elegant photo app for your arsenal of filtering tricks. this one focuses on blasting out color saturation and contrast a la minority report. settings are simple sliders which enable you to change contrast, brightness and saturation of your selected photo. requires the iPhone 3.1.3 firmware update to work.

a graphical and interactive compilation of the known architect and designer Renzo Piano as framed from the lense of Abitare (the italian architecture magazine). the experience on the iPad is actually very elegant and diverse. it offers a number of different methods to interact with the content, multiple swipe variations, click and touch, zoom, and traditional scrolling. the imagery and content speaks for itself. This foray into the digital realm and specifically for iPad for a classical publication like Abitare is inspiring. expensive (£9 or $11) but well worth it.

amazing photo archive of manhole covers in japan which have fantastic colors and designs embellished on them. a companion to the book published by remo camerota, a well known photographer, artist and director living in japan. remo has captured the essence of the art in digital form. makes me want to travel back to japan to visit again!

super simple interface to select the spots you think are the differences in this classic game translated to the iPad touch and swipe interface. the photos remind me of high quality stills from some hollywood films. the coolest part is that there are not any points, time limit or any text at all! its all just you and the photos comparing minute details until your eyes bleed. enjoy.

i HAVE to post on CR releasing an app as its one of my fave magazine publications. still scratching my head as to why they did not release an iPad app instead to showcase the works? for the price I also would have expected it to be more than a elaborate slideshow of work but, incl. audio clips, native h264 video not youtube, wallpapers for personal use). regardless, CR is top notch design and they showcase it well in the 2010 annual.

the app is actually a more simplified view of the lifestyle and design editorial then the website. something to be said for optimized user experiences here for curated content, love it! for the record, the screenshot does not do it justice… where it really sings is in landscape mode (for video play out, slideshows, article detail pages) which is even more impacting to use! congrats to josh for making it happen!

multi-function calendar and clock with simple weather icons and location based information. a variety of japanese locations shot in tiltshift stop motion across the country to represent the four seasons. excellent soundtrack by fantastic plastic machine! check out the full featured flash calendar online as well which has blog widgets, screensaver and interactive greeting cards. great stuff!

unique alternate to slideshow on your iPhone. the coolest thing about it, source your flickr feed, rss media feed, and snarf the images from a website (i used my fffound)! edit transitions, how long image displays, add/edit/remove feeds/urls added, even change order! neat feature enables you to swipe left/right to select your preferred slideshow. one thing, you can’t turn off the ken burns transition effect which is a bummer, but not a deal breaker!
